At least 3,000 e-trikes may be available by 2015

It’s not easy being green—but it’s definitely not impossible.

“The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in partnership with the Department of Energy, is eyeing to release between 3,000 to 5,000 units of the e-trikes by 2015,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

In an interview on ANC’s Future Perfect, Energy Undersecretary Loreta Ayson and ADB energy specialist Sohail Hasnie said that “although they are still in the process of bidding out the production of the e-trikes, the vehicles should start servicing the public next year.”

The ADB-DOE e-trikes, which can seat five to six people, will charge the same fare as regular tricycles. They are powered by lithium ion batteries instead of gasoline. In its test run, the project came out with 20 units, which can be seen going around Mandaluyong.
