At least 30 bodies were recovered from the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City hours after a gunman went on a rampage in the casino resort early Friday morning, sources from the Bureau of Fire Protection said. The bodies were found on the 2nd and 3rd floors, but most of which were found in the casino area, BFP officials told ABS-CBN News.

Most of them suffocated to death due to the thick smoke from the burning casino tables torched by the suspect, the sources added.

At least 54 others were brought to nearby hospitals after sustaining injuries, officials said.

The “Causcasian-looking” male suspect committed suicide by setting himself on fire inside a room at the Maxims Hotel.

Police officials earlier ruled out terror motives saying the man was operating alone, but eyewitnesses stand by their claim that they saw other gunmen inside the entertainment complex.
