A camping trip turned into a heartbreaking tragedy as 14 students from the BestLink College of the Philippines in Novaliches died in an accident in Tanay, Rizal on Mon morning.

According to reports, the tourist bus carrying about 50 passengers lost its brakes and rammed into an electric post.

Four of the fatalities were female students. Most of the other students on the bus were injured or wounded. The driver is now in a critical condition.

“They could have been running too fast that when they hit the post, the impact was too strong the roof of the bus almost got detached,” said Carlos Inofre of the Tanay town government in a report by Inquirer.

The students were bound for Sacramento Adventure Camp in Tanay, where they were supposed to attend a camping tour as part of their National Service Training Program.

School officials were already on the site of the accident. Investigations are still ongoing.
