At least 12 drug dens and lairs of suspected drug pushers were discovered on Mon, Sep 21, near Camp Crame, the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Some 150 policemen swooped down on several areas in Barangay West Crame initially identified as drug hotspots.
Armed with search warrants, police arrested a total of 33 people, including active policeman PO3 Ronaldo Baltazar.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Gardiola Jr., PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force head, said police started identifying illegal drug dens around Camp Crame last June.
In another raid along Araneta Avenue, police seized P2.2 million worth of shabu from a certain Merlita Samson, allegedly the leader of the Amalie Drug Group.
Police said Samson, 45, was arrested after one of the members of her group who was nabbed last week revealed her whereabouts.
Police set up Samson for a transaction for 100 grams of shabu worth PHP200,000. They then discovered the rest of the 1.1 kilograms of shabu in the suspect’s possession.
Samson’s companion immediately fled the scene on board a motorcycle. (from a report by Kevin Manalo, ABS-CBN News and Dennis Datu, dzMM)
