Hell hath no fury like a senior citizen who isn’t given his discount.
“Atty. Romulo Macalintal, 67, who’s known for taking on election cases has has sued the five-star Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City for allegedly denying him his 20% senior citizen’s discount,” reports Ira Pedrasa on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Macalintal said that “he used his Sofitel Accor Advantage card, which provides as much as 50% discount on food and drinks.” He said he pays PHP8,800 a year for the card.
The hotel restaurant gave Macalintal a 50% discount as a member of the privilege group, but it did not give him his additional 20% discount for being a senior citizen.
Macalintal pointed out: “The 20% should be on top of the 50% discount. They said the 205 is already included in the 505. It seems they were the ones who enjoyed my senior citizen’s discount.”
Macalintal went on to cite the terms and conditions of his Accor Advantage Card, which says “nothing in these Terms excludes, limits, modifies, or restricts any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition implied or imposed by any legislation which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.”
Macalintal has already filed a complaint at the Pasay City prosecutors’ office.
Meanwhile, Sofitel lawyer Edwardson Ong said “they have yet to see the complaint, although he said they were already sent summons.”
Macalintal and Sofitel representatives are required to appear at the fiscal’s office on June 9.
