Lawmakers open arms, cities to typhoon victims

More help is coming to Supertyphoon Yolanda’s refugees.

“The Metro [Manila] congressmen have agreed to provide food and shelter to Yolanda’s survivors who are arriving in the capital by the hundreds every day, Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo said on Monday,” according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Calling the initiative “Project Yakap (Embrace),” Castelo proposed that representatives in Metro Manila identify areas where a temporary shelter can be setup for the typhoon victims who have no place to go. He even considered giving the evacuees livelihood so they could get back on their feet while Leyte, among other devastated places, was being rebuilt.

The lawmaker pointed out that maintaining the order in the capital was crucial especially today with the government moving forward with its relocation program for informal settlers. The project has gained steam earlier this year.
