Sometimes, we wonder what congressional representatives really do at work.
“A measure seeking to increase the Christmas bonus of barangay officials [has] been filed at the House of Representatives,” reports Jomari Guillermo in Manila Bulletin.
Aklan Rep. Teodorico Haresco Jr. is seeking to double the Christmas bonus of barangay officials to PHP2,000 from the current rate of PHP1,000. The present rate is based on the Local Government Code, which was enacted in 1991.
Haresco said the portion of the law needs to be amended to reflect the changing times, such as the increase in prices of goods.
If it gets passed, a lot of barangay chairs, members of the barangay council, barangay secretaries and treasurers will be happy.
