We all whine about having astronomical power bills, but this takes the cake.
“The heirs of the late Cavite Rep. Renato Dragon have no choice but to pay over PHP2 million in disputed electric bills that the Dragon family home in South Forbes Park had racked up in four years,” reports Victor C. Agustin in his Cocktales column on InterAksyon.com.
The report noted: “In the latest setback for the Dragons, the Court of Appeals has upheld the Energy Regulatory Commission’s findings that there was nothing wrong with the electric meter or its replacement installed in the Dragon house at 15 Tamarind St. within the multimillionaires’ enclave.”
Interestingly enough, the report revealed that “Dragon initiated the suit in 2006, accusing the Manila Electric Co. of having tampered with his replacement meter, installed after the old one exploded, apparently due to short-circuit.”
But then Dragon later suffered a price shock after the new meter was installed, as his monthly power bill “shot up to over PHP48,000 a month from just PHP15,000.”
For the record, “the disputed billings accumulated to over PHP2 million in the span of four years.”
