A village chairman in San Pablo City, Laguna was hacked to death by his own godson yesterday morning after the former allegedly refused to give the suspect a quarantine pass.

Pablito Hernandez arrived at the village hall of Santa Ana at about 10:30am to ask for a pass from Chairman Larry Rosales, his godfather, reports Journal Online. Hernandez needed the pass so he could venture outside of the village, which has been put under quarantine because of the Luzon lockdown.

When Rosales refused, the suspect hacked him on the neck with a machete, and Hernandez also threatened to hurt onlookers who tried to stop him, reports news show Unang Balita. The victim tried to run away but Hernandez managed to catch him and chopped him to death. After killing the victim, Hernandez continued to vent his anger by smashing an ambulance and a tricycle with his machete.

Hernandez was later shot in the leg by policemen after he initially refused to surrender, reports ABS-CBN News. He was brought to a hospital for treatment and was later transferred to San Pablo City’s detention center where he was charged with murder.
