Pope Francis, who is set to be in the Philippines on Jan 15 to 19, will be using furniture especially made for his visit.

“Engr. Robert Cruz — owner of the Vitreartus Liturgical Arts furniture company in San Pedro, Laguna — said workers have started working on the liturgical furniture only this month because the designs of the furniture still had to be approved by the Vatican,” reports Leslie Ann Aquino on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “The furniture pieces were designed by priest-architect Fr. Alex Bautista of the Diocese of Tarlac Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church.”

One of the Papal furniture pieces is the mahogany wood altar table and lectern that will be used during the Mass of Pope Francis at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, Manila on Jan. 18, 2015.

Cruz said the altar will be “yellow like bavarian cream” and measures 2×3 meters. Meanwhile, the lectern is five feet in height.

The report added: “Both the altar table, lectern as well as the Pope’s chair will have anahaw leaves in the design to add Filipino touch to it.”

Pope Francis’ chair will also have the words “Ang Mabuting Pastol” embossed just below the coat of arms of the Holy Father.

Cruz explained, “The words were put there to make it more understandable. The people could easily identify with it…but it’s the coat of arms that is very important because it symbolizes his office.”
