Ladies can pop the question, says bishop

We don’t usually agree with what retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, but in this case he’s almost cool. (Take note: Almost.)

In an interview with Leslie Ann Aquino in the Manila Bulletin, Cruz was quoted as saying, “If the woman proposes and the man agrees then it’s okay. There’s no norm as to who proposes and who accepts. The most important thing is they agreed to get married.”

It turns out that Cruz is also the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) National Appellate Matrimonial Tribunal (NAMT). So, he should know, right? (But maybe he’d be more credible if he had firsthand experience at being married.)

Cruz added that has not yet encountered a couple in which the woman was the one who proposed. Er, maybe they were afraid to admit it to you.)
