It’s worth the wait.
“After nine months of renovation, the 2,585-square meter Arsenio Lacson Underpass in Quiapo, Manila was reopened to the public on Tuesday, October 14, with a more spacious, well-lit, and neat passageway lined with shops, and food kiosks,” reports Jenny F. Manongdo in Tempo.
In case you didn’t know, Lacson was a former Manila mayor.
The report noted that “the Lacson Underpass is now privately-owned and operated by the operators of Victory Malls, which has branches in Caloocan, Antipolo, Pasay, Bulacan, and Batangas.”
The report also pointed out that the “operators rehabilitated the underpass at no cost to the city and will also shoulder its operating and maintenance costs.”
In fact, the underpass now also has its own set of security guards—courtesy of the operators.
However, the operators “will operate on a profit-sharing scheme with the city.” But officials have not yet disclosed how much will go to the city of Manila.
