The Philippine National Police assessed the Labor Day celebrations on Wednesday as “generally peaceful and orderly.”
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. reported that there were no major incidences of violence in Metro Manila and other key locations in the country. Cerbo said in an ABS-CBN News report that security personnel are still on standby even after the Labor Day activities are over.
He said that Metro Manila police are still detailed at the Chino Roces Bridge, Liwasang Bonifacio, Mabuhay Rotonda, Bonifacio Monument, Plaza Salamanca in Ermita, Manila. Police are also on standby at the Ninoy Aquino monument in Makati City. Some 5,000 protesters from various labor groups held Labor Day programs.
