Broadcaster Korina Sanchez was in the front row of the historic Club Filipino’s Kalayaan Room when her husband, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas received the endorsement of President Aquino. But she was there as a wife and Roxas’ “number one fan.”
Her pride was evident on the big screen as she was shown looking at Roxas who was delivering his emotional acceptance speech.
Speaking to reporters later, Sanchez spoke freely about her bias to her husband.
“Alam ko kasi ang puso ng asawa ko (I know my husband’s heart). Pasensya ka na ha, I am his number one fan,” she said.
Sanchez has gone on leave from her anchoring chores for ABS-CBN’s primetime newscast TV Patrol.
She said she is ready to give up her career as her husband launches his presidential bid.
“And it’s not about me, it’s really about a bigger calling about my husband. And I will always be secondary to that,” she said.
Sanchez will join her husband on the campaign trail and expressed her eagerness to pressing the flesh. She joked that she could also sing and dance as part of her contribution to the campaign.
Sanchez is also ready to face the chorus of criticisms and mudslinging that come in the campaign territory. She spoke of the need to sacrifice and taking it all in if they were to achieve their goal of helping elect her husband.
“If you want to serve the country, you just really have to suck it in and you really just have to sacrifice and that’s what it takes. I think it all makes it worth it-when you have moments like this, when people like-minded, with one heart, kindered spirits come together for one common journey and that’s daang matuwid (the Straight Path),” she said.
