In a May 18 Philippine Daily Inquirer report written by Nancy C. Carvajal, it was alleged that the names of several radio and television personalities appeared in the “disbursements files” of whistleblower Benhur Luy.
The entries in the said files supposedly the amount the media personalities were supposed to have received from Janet Lim Napoles from 2004 to 2008.
Among the media personalities named was ABS-CBN News chief correspondent Korina Sanchez.
In a statement released on the same day that the Inquirer story came out, Sanchez had said, “I only met Ms Janet Napoles and her family in late 2013 after having been assigned to interview the Napoles family after the news had broken out about the alleged PDAF scam.”
Sanchez then added, “I am astounded to learn that I was supposed to have received a birthday gift from her one time 10 years ago in 2004. This never happened. I did not receive any such gift, in cash or kind, from Ms Napoles or her company nor through emissaries then and up to now.”
“Aside from Sanchez, other media personalities whose names got dragged into the mess includes GMA News’ Mike Enriquez and TV5’s Luchi Cruz-Valdez. Both Enriquez and Cruz-Valdez have likewise issued statements denying their involvement with any of Napoles’ deals,” reports ANC.
