Korean student chases robber, gets snatched phone back

It’s a good thing she wasn’t hurt.

“Youn Su Kim—a 19-year-old Korean student at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde—was able to recover her smartphone from a snatcher whom she chased and wrestled with along Taft Avenue, Manila, on Monday evening, August 5,” reports Annelle Tayao-Juego on Inquirer.net.

The report noted: “Kim was walking home at around 9:30 p.m. to her dormitory at One Archer’s Place on Taft Avenue when the 34-year-old suspect, whom police identified as Francis Antonio, grabbed the smartphone worth PHP20,000 in her hand.”

Kim, however, went after Antonio and caught up with him near Estrada Street. She immediately struggled to retrive her phone from him. After a few minutes, Antonio finally gave up and dropped the phone on the pavement.

Fortunately for Kim, some guards from the school managed to catch Antonio just before he could escape.

Antonio is now detained at the Manila Police District on United Nations Avenue.
