Koko Pimentel is next Senate President

There’s been a shake-up in the playground.

During the Kapihan sa Manila Bay on Wed, Jun 8, current Senator Franklin Drilon confirmed that “16 or 17 senators” from the Liberal Party, Akbayan, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino and Nationalist People’s Coalition are backing Senator Koko Pimentel as the new Senate President.

Drilon was quoted as saying, “Last night, we met and had that agreement. The president of the incoming Senate will be Koko Pimentel III. I will be the Senate President Pro Tempore and (Senator Vicente) Tito Sotto will be the Majority Leader.”

It may be recalled that Sotto had also wanted to be Senate President.

“Drilon said he conceded the chamber’s leadership to Pimentel in the 17th Congress ‘for the sake of unity and stability,'” reports Maila Ager on Inquirer.net.
