KMU stages protest vs. rate hike in front of Meralco

It’s all about power.

“On Monday, Feb 17, members of the militant group Kilusang Mayo Uno-National Capital Region (KMU-NCR) staged a protest rally in front of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) main office in Ortigas, Pasig City, to denounce the impending electricity hike,” reports Francis T. Wakefield on Manila Bulletin Online.

According to Gloria Bongon, KMU-NCR spokeswoman, said about two dozen members of their group jogged their way to the Meralco headquarters from the EDSA People Power monument to protest electricity.

Bongon said they were concerned that “the 60-day temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court on Meralco’s PHP4.15 per kilowatt-hour electricity increase is set to lapse on February 21.”
