Kentex welder denies witnesses’ claims, insists fire was not his fault

The welder of Kentex Manufacturing Corporation denied that the factory fire that claimed 72 lives in Valenzuela City was his fault.

The welder is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after witnesses tagged him as the cause of the fire. He claimed he had been getting death threats.

Witnesses said combustible materials caught fire near the welder’s work station, and this started the factory fire.

Today, he was brought to the factory and asked to reenact what he did before the fire started. He said he made sure that his surroundings were safe before he started welding.

The welder’s lawyer also insisted that his client had no shortcomings and that he has been in the industry for 15 years.

The welder is in good condition in the custody of the CIDG and has submitted his affidavit.
