Filipinos have a knack for setting world records. The province of Kalinga added two more to the list after it broke two records for a gong performance during its 28th founding anniversary.

Called “Call of a Thousand Gongs, Dance of a Thousand Pots,” the dance landed in the Guinness World Records for The Largest Gong Ensemble and The Largest Banga (Pot) Dance.

Official adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura confirmed the record after the performance at the Kalinga Sports Complex.

Some 3,440 local men played their gongs in an ensemble and 4,681 women danced with pots on their heads, the local government wrote on its official Facebook page.

This is far from Kalinga’s first attempt to land a world record, after its 2018 performance for the largest gong group.

The Philippines is known for setting all kinds of zany records, usually led by local governments themselves — another province in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Benguet, has held the largest strawberry cake record since 2004, with the dessert weighing 9,622.24 kilograms.

Other colorful records include holding the world’s largest Zumba class during the Kaogma Festival in Camarines Sur in 2018, where 13,350 participated. The town of Bayambang, Pangasinan also snagged the world record for longest barbecue, grilling 55,000 kilograms of fish at a barbecue line that spanned 8,000 meters.
