“Last week, the University of the Philippines Board of Regents (BOR) approved the academic calendar shift to August starting academic year 2014-2015—but not everyone is happy with the change,” reports ANC.

To begin with, UP Diliman is still not on board with the shift “due to opposition registered by certain sectors.”
The report said that the Kabataan party-list wants the BOR to “explain why it forced changes in the academic calendar despite the opposition from the student groups.”

Meanwhile, the Anakbayan party-list said “the state university should instead prioritize efforts to lower the cost of tuition.”
Both groups assert that “adopting changes in the school calendar will not necessarily make Philippine schools more competitive.”
