In the words of writer Dorothy Parker, “What fresh hell is this?”
“Embattled Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay clarified that there was no sarcasm intended, when his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, said he is considering Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas as a possible running-mate in the 2016 presidential election,” reports Jorge Cariño on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Mayor Binay explained in Filipino, “He stated that he had a list of people whom he was considering as his running mates. The name of Secretary Roxas is included in that list. And the idea there is to unify this country.”
The younger Binay emphasized that “the intent of the Vice President is to unite this country and to avoid putting people in a compromising situation whenever politicians figure in a scuffle.”
The report noted the irony of the “Roxas as running mate” concept, as “Mayor Binay is in conflict with the DILG after the Ombudsman ordered the preventive suspension of the mayor and other former and incumbent officials of the city.”
The DILG had installed Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña as the Acting Mayor prior to the release of a Court of Appeals temporary restraining order, which stopped the implementation of the Ombudsman’s order.
