Jovito Palparan arrested in Manila

He’s been in hiding since 2011.

“Retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan, who is wanted for the 2006 disappearance of University of the Philippines (UP) students Karen Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan, was arrested in Sta. Mesa, Manila before dawn on Tuesday, August 12, by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI),” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted that “Palparan went into hiding after a Bulacan Regional Trial Court judge issued a warrant arrest for him, Lt. Col. Felipe Anotado Jr., S/Sgt. Edgardo Osorio and M/Sgt. Rizal Hilario for the disappearance Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan.”

The two students were believed to have been forcibly taken into military June 26, 2006 because they were accused of being insurgents.

Among Palparan’s co-accused, Anotado and Osorio have voluntarily surrendered, while Hilario remains at large.
