Filipinos in the greater Chicago area are searching for a bust of Dr. Jose Rizal that was reportedly stolen from outside a Filipino community center.

According to local reports, the Rizal bust was stolen on Monday, June 15, days before the Philippine national hero’s 154th birth anniversary.

Witnesses said they saw six people remove the bust from its pedestal in front of the Rizal Center on Irving Park Road in Chicago.

The statue was erected during a Philippine Independence Day celebration in 1998, funded by donations from local members of the Knights of Rizal and the Ladies of Rizal. (Read more on Balitang America.)
