In a survey conducted from Feb 22 to Mar 6, 2016, JobStreet.com from asked 551 companies in PH which schools’ graduates they prioritized when they hired employees. Based on the companies’ answers, the top 10 priority schools were listed. (Click this link to check out the list.)
The state-run Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) emerged as the No. 1 pick in the survey. Out of 551 companies asked by JobStreet, 45% said they prefer PUP graduates because they are, in general, “very hard-working, often going the extra mile in their job.”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, JobStreet.com Philippines country manager Philip Gioca said, “More than preference for particular colleges and universities, employers prioritize applicants who show willingness to be trained and to learn. Companies need new employees who can easily adapt to their processes and systems, learn their products and services, the dynamics of the industry that they are a part of, and what drives their succes.”
Gioca further explained that “respondent-employers also found that PUP graduates have the drive to succeed and do not give up on assignments given to them, thus having the tendency to stay longer in a company.” Moreover, they said PUP graduates “have reasonable demands and don’t usually display attitude of self-entitlement.”
Gioca added, “Primadonnas and newbies who think they don’t need training won’t get hired. Where a fresh graduate got his or her diploma won’t matter as much as his or her eagerness to learn and showing the ability to absorb concepts and apply them in the office setting.”
