It can’t be denied that his popularity as one of the hosts of It’s Showtime helped him a lot.
Virgilio “Jhong” Hilario Jr. topped the councilor’s race in the 1st District of Makati with 80,692 votes. Hilario’s father, Virgilio Sr., previously served in the same position.
“In an interview with DZMM on Wednesday, Hilario was asked if he did stunts during their house-to-house campaign. He admitted that he danced when people requested him to do a sample,” reports Neima Chowdhury on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Hilario explained, “Alam mo mahirap hindian ‘yung mga tao kapag nagre-request eh. Well hindi naman tayo nagtatatumbling pero ‘pag sinasabing ‘sample sample’, umiindak tayo nang kaunti pampasaya para sa kanila kasi alam mo naman nakilala tayo bilang ‘sample king’ at least matuwa man lang sila.”
Hilario, of course, has been dubbed as “Sample King” by fans.
The report noted: “Asked about his showbiz career after the election, Hilario said that he still needs to talk to his manager, director Chito Roño, about his schedule. However, he hopes to go back to showbiz anytime.”
Along with Hilario, singer Rico J. Puno was also elected as one of the councilors of Makati’s first district.
