Jeepney fare hike in Metro Manila approved by LTFRB

This increase was inevitable.

“Starting June 14, the minimum jeepney fare in the National Capital Region (NCR), and Regions III and IV will be PHP8.50 after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the petition of transport groups,” reports Kris Bayos and Francis T. Wakefield in Manila Bulletin.

LTFRB Chairman Winston M. Ginez added that an additional 10 centavos (from PHP1.40 to HPP1.50) will be charged for every succeeding kilometer.

The report noted: “Under the new fare matrix, children less than three feet tall shall be free of charge while those who measure 3’1″ to around 4″ shall only pay half the fare. PUJ operators shall provide a system of measurement to determine the height of child passengers. Senior Citizens, students and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) on the other hand must be given 20% fare discount, Ginez stressed.”
