The son of basketball legend and former senator Robert Jaworski was wounded in an encounter with the police in Makati early Sat, Sep 19.

Ryan Joseph Jaworski, 40, sustained a gunshot wound on his right leg. He is now confined at the Makati Medical Center.

Authorities launched a buy-bust operation along Chino Roces Avenue against Jaworski and two of his companions, Joselito Au and Ferdinand Parago. The three were on board a maroon vehicle.

Police said they were following the group when they started firing. This prompted the police to fire back.

Jaworski and his companions were able to escape, but the police later received a report that the suspects went straight to Makati Medical Center. Au was arrested at the hospital, while Parago was able to escape.

Recovered from the vehicle were a shot gun, 19 M-16 rifle bullets, 14 9-millimeter pistol bullets, and two .40-caliber gun bullets.

The suspects had been under surveillance by the police. Jaworski was previously arrested due to illegal drug activities.

Jaworski will be charged with attempted murder, direct assault, and illegal possession of firearms. (from a report by Raya Capulong, ABS-CBN News)
