Even Japan Home Centre is trolling Sec Duque, which really says something about the situation

It’s pretty hard to be a political fence-sitter these days, especially when it comes to the politics of the pandemic.

And when the issue is as massive as the Commission on Audit flagging a Php67 billion deficiency—that’s sixty-seven billion pesos—in the reports from the Department of Health (!) during a pandemic (!!), well, you can expect everyone to have opinions.

But when even a discount store known for its no-frills home supplies starts trolling you, you know you’ve really messed up.

On their Facebook page, Japan Home Centre—not a brand known for its political opinions—posted this bit of trivia:

“Did you know?” the post reads. “If you have P67 billion, you can get 1,522,727,272 pcs. of this 44-peso aesthetic tabo from Japan Home Centre.”

That caption was followed up with, “A gentle reminder to always wash our hands and keep safe! “

In a little over three hours, the post received over 4.3K reactions, and was shared over 2.1K times.

Over the past few days, Filipinos have responded to COA’s report with anger—and quite a bit of humor, too. Not only was Health Secretary Francisco Duque’s Wikipedia entry vandalized numerous times, but dozens of memes and cartoons are being circulated on social media, all poking fun at the way Sec Duque and President Rodrigo Duterte have handled the crisis.
