Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said alleged pork barrel queen Janet Napoles was transferred to another ward inside the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) after being involved in an altercation with several inmates and a prison employee.

De Lima denied Napoles is being given special treatment when she was transferred to the ward for pregnant inmates.

“[Bureau of Corrections] Director [Ricardo Rainier] Cruz went to the CIW to determine why Napoles was transferred to another ward and his preliminary assessment was there was no special treatment given to her,” she said.

She said they don’t know yet why Napoles got into an altercation with inmates and a CIW employee.

“For some reason, we are still trying to determine the cause of altercation. Why did she get involved in a spat with the other inmates. I still don’t have those details yet… So, my standing instruction to Gen. Cruz is to closely monitor the situation,” de Lima said.

She said Napoles’ security is still a concern considering her role in the plunder cases connected to the pork barrel scam.

Napoles, who allegedly funneled lawmakers’ funds to dummy nongovernment organizations, was sentenced to a jail term of up to 40 years on another separate case. She was found guilty of illegally detaining Benhur Luy, her trusted aide who later became the pork scam whistleblower.
