Jamie Oliver, One Direction and other UK stars raise funds for #YolandaPH

Cheers mate! While you were sleeping, the Naked Chef was raising #TyphoonAid funds for #YolandaPH victims. He threw his support behind UK-based Disasters Emergency Committe (@decappeal on Twitter) which held a telethon a few hours ago in London that ended at 5am (Manila time). The telethon is now closed but UK residents can still call 0370 6060 900 or text DEC to 70000  for a donation of five pounds.

Jamie Oliver posted this video on his Instagram account, with a note that said: “Please help guys I’m sure we’ve all been shocked by the devastation in the Philippines if you want a simple way to donate text DEC to 70000 and £5 goes straight to the appeal. So easy guys and simple to do. UK only. Comment below if you have donated. Thanks guys JO xx”.

The telethon was held at the top of the BT Towers and saw stars like boy band One Direction and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt helping out.

BBC reports One Direction’s Liam Payne, who launched the telethon on Twitter, as saying: “The pictures I have seen of little children in between the ruins made my heart break. “All of us in the band are shocked by how many people need help, so we’re asking the public to continue to be as generous as they possibly can.”
