Italian woman in Baguio City claims she mistook marijuana plants for lagundi

Is she a clueless expat or a cunning criminal?

Cops have arrested an Italian woman living in Baguio City for allegedly growing marijuana plants on her veranda. They seized six pots of marijuana plants. A concerned citizen had reportedly tipped off the police about the plants.

“The female suspect, who was not named by the police, said she thought she was growing Lagundi, a medicinal plant used to treat cough and asthma,” reports Christine Faye Kim on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The suspect reasoned, “They were given to me by an Igorot lady and said it’s medicinal and she said it’s Lagundi and suddenly these people [are] telling me it’s not.”

The report noted: “The suspect’s son and his friends were also arrested while drinking alcohol mixed with suspected marijuana.”

The suspects are now under the custody of the Baguio City Police Office Station 3.

They are set to face charges for the violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
