With 7’2 center Hamed Haddidi, Iran was pretty much dominated the game against Gilas Pilipinas on Thursday afternoon. They won 74-65 in the Willam Jones Cup tournament held in Taiwan.
Iran took a huge 11-point lead in the third quarter. “But back-to-basics baskets by Calvin Abueva cut the deficit down to seven points, 54-47, putting Gilas within striking distance heading into the fourth quarter,” reports GMA News.
After JC Intal’s three-pointer that cut the lead down 65-61, Iran scored nine straight points, punctuated with Haddadi’s slam dunk.
“With its victory, Iran figures to be the favorite anew in the FIBA tournament in China this year,” notes GMA.
