iPad’s GPS leads police to robbery and homicide suspects

Turns out these guys are looking at serious jail time.

“Two thieves who were arrested after police found them through a global positioning system (GPS) device installed in an iPad they stole have also been charged with killing and robbing a company secretary,” reports Julie Aurelio of Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The suspects, Raymond Reyes, 23, and Joel David, 32, have been charged with robbery with homicide at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office over the killing of Olive Samarita. She was about to return to her office carrying PHP500,000 in cash when robbers stole it and shot her dead.

Witnesses confirmed with police that Reyes and David were the robbers, corroborating a security footage which helped identify the suspects.

The suspects were arrested last week when police managed to tracked down the suspect using the GPS function on their victim’s tablet. They pulled a heist at Ruben Dizon’s house in Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City, taking away the device and some PHP10 million worth of cash and valuables.

Dizon turned over the information regarding the suspects’ location to the police, who immediately went after the suspects.

Investigators said the two are members of the Cuya robbery group, which has been tagged in a series of robberies in Quezon City since the start of this year. The gang is led by a certain Jonathan Cuya.
