We do love a good social media burn once in a while, don’t we?

Ruben Carranza, according to the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) website, “obtained his B.A. and LL.B. degrees from the University of the Philippines and an LL.M. from New York University in 2005 as a Global Public Service Law Program scholar.”

No wonder he’s now the director of the ICTJ’s Reparative Justice Program and has been providing “advice on issues involving reparations and war crimes tribunals including the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).”

We know, impressive, right?

So when two Filipino senators pointed out the apparent rise of constitution and defense “experts” in the Philippines lately (perhaps due to the recently declared martial law in Mindanao as a response to the unrest in Marawi City), Carranza didn’t mince his words.

Senator JV Ejercito, son of formerly impeached (and imprisoned) president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada, tweeted on Sat, May 27:

Ejercito wrote, “Dumami ang mga constitutionalists and security and defense experts dito sa Pinas nitong mga nakaraang mga araw.

(The number of constitutionalists and security and defense experts here in the Philippines is increasing the past few days.)

Senator Sonny Angara, son of former senator and agriculture secretary Edgardo Angara, chimed in and said:

Angara said, “hehe. A nation of armchair experts.”

Mr. Carranza did not let the day end without sharing his two cents, serving the two senators a much-needed reality check in one woke tweet:

He tweeted, “From my armchair & expertise in fighting plunderers & dictators, I see sons who’re sitting where they are thanks to plunder & dictatorship.”

Twitter savagery at its finest. Someone page the burn unit.
