At the very last minute, former OFW Mary Jane Veloso was spared from execution in Indonesia. But this doesn’t mean she’s totally out of danger yet.

“Indonesia’s Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo explained that Mary Jane Veloso was granted a stay of execution because her alleged boss (recruiter) has been arrested in the Philippines, and the authorities there requested Indonesian assistance in pursuing the case,” reports Associated Press.

The report quoted Prasetyo as saying, “This delay did not cancel the execution. We just want to give her a chance in relation with the legal process in the Philippines.”

President Noynoy Aquino made a last-minute call to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to propose turning Veloso into a witness to help authorities “uncover” the drug syndicate that duped her into smuggling drugs.

Aquino’s suggestion was made in light of the fact that Veloso’s recruiter Maria Kristina Sergio (who also goes by the name Christine Pasadilla) had turned herself in.
