Apparently, this serves to “further reinforce naval ties between the Philippines and India.’
“The embassy of India announced that Indian warship INS Sahyadri arrived in Manila on Wednesday, August 20, for a port visit,” reports Elena L. Aben in Manila Bulletin.
The report described the INS Sahyadri as “an indigenously built guided missile stealth frigate.” Prior to its Manila stop, it was in Honolulu, Hawaii where it participated in Exercise Rimpac 2014.
The report further noted: “The multi-role stealth frigate boasts of an array of weaponry in her arsenal. Long range anti-ship missiles, medium and short range surface to air missiles augmented by powerful guns of different calibers provide a formidable shield against all types of threats.”
Also, two multi-role helicopters carried by the ship “act as force multipliers in all maritime scenarios due to their versatility and long range.”
While in Manila, the Indian warship “will undertake operational turn around while the ship’s crew would participate in various events like professional interaction, sports events, and social engagements.”
The report likewise pointed out that “Manila is a regular port of all for Indian naval ships.” In fact, last year Indian ships Satpura, Ranvijay, Shakti, and Kirch arrived in Manila for a port visit.
