The Bureau of Immigration today said that it is planning to deport a Pakistani national living in Palawan for alleged guns and explosives possession.

Suspect Haroon Bashir, 29, was also charged for violating Philippine immigration law for overstaying in the country and being an undocumented alien. Bashir was arrested earlier this month in his residence along Atis Road in San Jose Village in Puerto Princesa City.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Bashir failed to present a passport or any travel document and has been living in Palawan for at least seven years.

“A check of his travel record in our database showed that he arrived in the Philippines on 28 April 2013 and that he never left the country since then,” Morente said.

Philippine National Police’s Mimaropa region office said the suspected bomb maker is being investigated for possible involvement with local terrorist groups.

Because of this, Morente said that Bashir is facing possible criminal charges for deadly weapons possession, which could land him in jail if convicted by the court.

“It is only after he has served his sentence that we can deport him. He will then be blacklisted and banned from reentering the country,” Morente said.

Authorities allegedly found a .45 caliber pistol and two improvised explosive devices when they raided Bashir’s house earlier this month.
