Iloilo City Council declares Manuel Mejorada ‘persona non grata’

Wikipedia can’t help him with this.

“The Iloilo City Council on Tuesday, November 18, passed a resolution declaring Mejorada persona non grata in the city following his statement that there is rampant corruption in the province,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The councilors passed the resolution because they were “hurt by Mejorada’s statement before the Senate Blue Ribbon committee that Iloilo City has become the ‘bird’s nest of corruption in the country.'”

Last week, Mejorada appeared before the Senate Blue Ribbon committee investigating the alleged overpricing of the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC). Mejorada claimed that Senate President Franklin Drilon was behind the alleged irregularities surrounding the construction of the ICC.

In his opening statement, Mejorada had said, “It pains me to tell the whole nation that Iloilo City has become the bird’s nest of corruption in the country. And it’s largely because those behind such corruption enjoy a mantle of protection from the third highest elected official of the land.”

Later on, though, Mejorada admitted to the senators that he has no evidence to prove officials conspired to overprice the project and benefit from it. He even cited Wikipedia as his source of information.
