Ilocos Norte placed under state of calamity due to Lawin’s damage

There’s a lot of work that needs to be done.

“At 2:15pm on Fri, Oct 21, the province of Ilocos Norte was declared under a state of emergency due to damages brought by Super Typhoon Lawin. The provincial board made the declaration through a special session,” reports Ariel Paolo Tejada on Philstar.com.

The declaration is necessary so that the province can immediately utilize the remaining PHP17.5 million from their PHP58.5-million calamity fund.

As of 1pm on Fri, Oct 21, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council (PDRRMRC) had estimated that the damages wrought in the area amounted to PHP673.5 million (PHP399 million on infrastructure and PHP274 million on agricultural resources).
