Hot weather is expected to worsen in the country as the El Niño phenomenon goes from mild to moderate in the coming months.

Experts say temperatures may rise further until August while improved weather may come in early next year.

As a result, drought may be experienced in more province while dozens may be hit with dry spell

“This El Niño is expected to strengthen. Medyo lalakas po siya. The forecast is that it will reach a moderate strength by August 2015 of this year. It is also expected to terminate by May 2016 although by January 2016 we are expecting this will gradually weaken,” said Dr. Flaviano Hilario, acting deputy director for research and development of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“Ang forecast natin in terms of drought and dry spell magkakaroon pa ng seven province to be affected by drought and more than 50 to be affected by dry spell. (ANC)
