Heard of Hooq yet? It’s an app with over 10,000 local and international movie and TV titles

Metro Manila traffic doesn’t look like it’s about to ease up any time soon so commuters, motorists, and anyone who needs to go out of their house, are left to their own devices.

So Globe’s announcement that will soon offer a video-on-demand service is most welcome in this part of the world. The telecom has just partnered with Hooq, a startup joint venture in Asia between Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Brotheres Entertainment.

Pronounced ‘hook’ (as in ‘hook-up’), Hooq is almost like the video equivalent of Spotify. It’s an app that you can download on your computer, laptop, tablet, and smart phone to enjoy its initial offering of 10,000 international and local movie and TV titles.

When it becomes available — this week, Globe says — subscribers can get it as a plan-based, add-on service for…PHP199 a month. Nice, no?

Anyway, at the announcement in Green Sun Hotel on Pasong Tamo Extension, Globe said the service will become available in late February with the Philippines as its launch market. This means, Philippine audience gets to sample Hooq before the service becomes available throughout the region.

Locally, Hooq has partnered with GMA, Viva, Regal, and ABS-CBN so you can get, say My Husband’s Lover alongside Men in Black.

With unlimited online streaming access, you can totally binge watch on movies and TV. But Hooq is aware of our less-than-desirable Internet connection so as an added measure, it also offers an offline viewing option. As in, you can download the movie when you have good Internet and then just watch it later when you have time (read: stuck in traffic).
