In a country that has a bad case of corruption, stories about honest people are needed to give us hope that there are still good people out there.

TV Patrol reports that Noel Lorilla — a security guard assigned at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) office in Albay, Bicol — was recently given a commendation for returning a little over PHP1 million in cash and checks that had been accidentally left behind.

To be specific, Lorilla stumbled upon a plastic envelope containing one check worth PHP858,000, another check worth PHP330,000, and PHP33,000 in cash.

It was later found out that the checks and cash belonged to the local government unit of the town of Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon. The money was going to be used to fund the social pension program of the DSWD in the area.

For his honesty, Lorilla was given a Certificate of Commendation by the DSWD.

“Hindi po talaga tayo dapat masilaw sa mga bagay na hindi sa atin,” Lorilla stated.

The report found out that LOrilla had a Ciminology degree. He had wanted to join the Philippine National POlice (PNP), but he was over the age limit by the time he graduated.
