Holy Week sacrifice: Some parts of metro won’t have water

In a timely exercise on self-denial, some Metro Manila residents will have to endure getting their water supply cut off during Holy Week.

“Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) said that water service interruptions are scheduled in some parts of Metro Manila and Cavite this Holy Week,” reports Chito A. Chavez in the Manila Bulletin.

Maynilad pointed out that “the water interruption will affect parts of Imus, Kawit, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Navotas, Pasay and the southern part of Caloocan City from April 15 (Holy Wednesday) to April 19 (Black Saturday).”

Other areas included in the list are Bacoor, Cavite City, Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa City, Noveleta, and Parañaque City.

Ricky Vargas, Maynilad president and CEO, explained that “the water service breaks are necessary to give way to the flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).” This includes the construction of an interceptor drainage box culvert (DBC) along Blumentritt Street.

The DBC will traverse the water pipe of Maynilad along Juan Luna Street corner Hermosa Street. Maynilad needs 72 hours to drain, realign and energize its affected water pipe.
