On Mon, Sep 28, the Bureau of Customs confiscated 571 card-skimming devices — used to ilegally gather ATM card and credit card users’ information — at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

“Edgar Macabeo, Customs district collector at NAIA, issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention on the card-skimming devices that were discovered while inspecting a checked-in baggage from a direct flight from Hong Kong,” reports GMA News Online.

The bag belonged to “a Hong Kong national, who will be charged for violating the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998 in relation to certain provisions of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines.”

The report noted: “Customs said the baggage had three pouches separately containing 199 devices for one-time password (OTP) with 38 SIM cards, 173 OTP devices with 22 SIM cards and 199 OTP devices with 42 SIM cards.”
