“On Monday, Mar 24, high school student John Rey Balayong, 19, was shot dead by Nico Labastida, also 19. Both are students of Rizal National High School in the town of Claveria, Misamis Oriental,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Rod Bolivar on ABS-CBNnews.com.
According to the report, the two had a drinking spree outside the school campus. Suddenly, they had an argument. Then, Labastida left and came back with a .45 caliber pistol and shot Balayong.
Labastida then surrendered to Barangay Malaguing Chairman Linda Nandong later that night. He is now under police custody. He didn’t explain what he and the victim had argued about.
The clincher: Both the suspect and the victim were supposed to graduate on March 28.
