Shopping mall tycoon Henry Sy is named the top billionaire in the Philippines with a net worth of USD12.7 billion. He ranks 94th in the world.
Sy started his empire from a footwear shop, Shoe Mart.
According to Forbes, Sy’s “family-owned SM Investments is the largest retailer in the Philippines, with stakes in banking, property and retail.”
13 other Filipinos made it to the list, including first-timers Ramon Ang and Edgar “Injap” Sia.
Bill Gates remains on top of the elite list with a fortune worth USD86 billion. Right behind him are Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, Amancio Ortega, and Mark Zuckerburg.
Forbes recorded 2,043 billionaires this year. They have a total net worth of USD7.67 trillion.
