Wondering whether your broken electric fan or microwave is worth salvaging? Then head on over to Lolo Smart’s YouTube channel.

A YouTuber who calls himself “Lolo Smart” (Smart Grandpa), who has reportedly been tinkering with objects for 40 years, saw his channel grow practically overnight after becoming the newest darling on social media for his thoughtful and easy-to-follow DIY repair tutorials on everyday household objects and appliances.

It all began after Ramil Lantican, who works as an art director, raved about the repairman’s YouTube channel on Facebook for his calm demeanor and helpful tone.

“I broke my fan this morning so I thought of checking some (tutorials) on Youtube. Then saw this Lolo Smart’s YT channel,” Lantican wrote on his Facebook page.

“I don’t know but I just felt amazed when watching him. I think it’s because of how calm he talks like it’s as if he really guides you through every step,” he added.

The poster also drew attention to the care and effort that Lolo Smart puts in every video, and even singled out the subtitles.

“He enjoys it,” Lantican wrote, adding that the YouTuber has easy step-by-step tutorials for young ones and everybody else on how to repair the most common household objects and gadgets. “From fixing microwaves, rewinding coil, flat irons, and even fixing toy cars! It’s cute.”

The poster found out that Lolo Smart had been in the repair business for 40 years before it shut down when the pandemic struck.

From a scant follower count of 557 since starting his YouTube channel in 2020, the veteran repairman now has grown his subscribers overnight to over 12,000 as of writing.

Lolo Smart’s latest video, a tutorial on how to fix ultra-slow fan blades, has now blown up to nearly 5,000 views just 12 hours after Lantican’s post.

Smart’s latest fans praised him on YouTube for his clear and informative explanations.

Ang galing niyo po magturo! Parang gusto kong baklasin ‘yung fan namin (You are a great teacher, sir! I feel like taking apart our fan),” one viewer said.

“The lolo (grandfather) I never had,” another wrote.
