Heartbroken Cebu woman sets home on fire after her American partner left her

A depressed woman from Consolacion, Cebu set her house on fire on Mon, Feb 13, after her American live-in partner left her.

30-year old Noraiza Alonzo attempted to burn down her two-storey house at 3 am, but her neighbors were able to stop her. She eventually succeeded on her second try at 6 am.

According to Consolacion Fire investigator SFO1 Tyrone Gocela, Alonzo gathered light materials inside her bathroom and created a fire. She also left her LPG tank open, ABS-CBN News reports.

Two other houses were damaged by the incident, but they were able to put out the blaze.

Alonzo reportedly admitted drug use.

Under Republic Act no. 5467, arson is punishable by “reclusion temporal to reclusion perpetua: (a) If the offender shall set fire to any building, farmhouse, warehouse, hut, shelter, or vessel in port, knowing it to be occupied at the time by one or more persons.”
