Cecilia Ongpauco — the mother of actress Heart Evangelista and mother-in-law of vice presidential hopeful Sen. Chiz Escudero — reportedly expressed her support for Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago’s run for the presidency.
Ongpauco’s statement is somewhat controversial, as Escudero is the running mate of presidential hopeful Sen. Grace Poe.
In an Inquirer.net report, Ongpauco was quoted as saying, “I’m here to support the candidate who’s running for the highest position… in the Philippines, Senator Miriam Santiago.”
Ongpauco made the statement at the meet-and-greet forum of Santiago at the Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman, Quezon City on Mon, Oct 26.
When asked why she is supporting Santiago, Ongpauco replied, “I believe Senator Miriam is the most qualified candidate who can improve and effect positive change for the betterment of the country. She’s the most qualified that’s why I’m here.”
Ongpauco refused to comment on other candidates.
